Battle of Ypres
Ypres was a small town in France located near the French coast. This was important because whoever controlled Ypres also controlled the ports and channel. April, 1915, was the first time mustard gas was used by Germans in battle. Canadian soldiers were positioned between French and British lines to keep the Germans back. Germans realized gas on the French section of the line first, soldiers either ran died or were permanatly injured, soon after Germans then moved to the Britain’s and Canadians. Canadians were able to hold off and push the Germans back until British reinforcements came. That was a Canadian victory, even though there were many casualties due to the mustard gas.
